The Power Of An Opportunity
They said when opportunity knocks you answer. They also said all opportunities are not the greatest and sometimes you have to give up good for great. There are some of us who wish for another opportunity, a second chance, just one more shot. The question is who are they and what type of opportunity are they offering?
There is a need for us to protect ourselves each and every day from those incapacitating and destructive thoughts that crush our dreams, motivations and will. When new opportunities come forth in our lives, immediately anxiety sets in and we ask “what if” questions. What if it’s not what I imagined? What if they do not offer me enough money? What if my idea is a flop? What if I do not lose those 10 pounds after drinking this tea? Rarely do we ask ourselves, how I am going to take advantage of this opportunity that has been presented in front of me.
Life has never given us an opportunity without a challenge. For instance, I had the opportunity to plant a flower. The challenge was to keep it alive every day. I do not know about you, but I think that is a pretty tough challenge if you ask me. Too much water it dies, to little water it dies. We have to find that sweet spot.
Not taking full advantage of opportunities is not due to incompetence. I would venture to say it comes from lack of commitment, discipline and the inability to make a conscience decision and stick with it. We all want to Do Better and acquire the luxuries of life, but what are you willing to sacrifice for it?
Every day we open our eyes and take that first breath, it is a new opportunity to do what you said you wanted to do. What you need to do! When I first entered into Masonry, my good brother said, tonight is your last night on this side of the grave. What are some things that you wish you would have done? After the 12 of us answered, he said, since you still have work to do, I have a golden ticket for you. This golden ticket grants you the opportunity to do everything you have not done today. What you do with this golden ticket is entirely up to you. Now he did not say all that, I paraphrased a little and put my twist on it, but you get the point.
Today has given you numerous opportunities. I suggest you examine at least one and explore all the great things it can bring. Now do not be foolish and not consider what could go wrong. Be realistic. Explore all options, make the best decisions and Do Better.
