No Excuses

Have you ever planned something out and it just did not go the way you planned? Then someone asks, hey what happened, and you tell them the truth but they seem to think it is an excuse for you to not complete the task you planned. If you are wondering, yes that has happened to me. Actually, that is what prompt this blog. As I was beginning to write about another subject something went wrong with my Surface pro. Needless to say I never finished writing about that subject. I made a post about the surface pro not letting me be great and I was quickly corrected by a good friend. Here is why I did not take it to heart and I took it on the chin. It was an excuse. I found out my Bluetooth keyboard was going dead which did not allow me to finish typing. I did put it on the charger and it took several hours to recharge. I could have switched to my other computer and finish, but I decided I would complete the task another time. See, I made an excuse. Individuals give excuses to avoid blame and responsibility. A person can be excused or give an excuse when they are completely blameless for the action. Being blameless could mean they are completely ignorant of the truth. Stay with me here. Here is an example of what I mean. If I was a doctor and I gave a patient the incorrect medicine although I believed it would cure the patient I am excused. I can provide an excuse. My excuse is the medicine I prescribe was supposed to cure the patient. Now let’s hope the insurance is up to date because I am sure a lawsuit for negligence will follow.  Although I was ignorant I should have ensured everything was correct with the medicine prior to giving it. Here is the thing, do not be ignorant. I know it sounds cliché and easy to do. Be knowledgably and attempt all avenues before you postpone a task. This post is dedicated to my dear friend Oliver Greene who I gave an excuse to because I did not follow through and find another solution. Thank you, brother, for holding me accountable and calling me out.  Stop making excuses and giving them to others as if they asked for them. Stop requiring them to accept your excuse because you do not want to take blame and responsibly for falling short or not doing what you said you were going to do. Now grab at t-shirt and #DoBetter.

  • Thank you Oliver for the IN THE MOMENT check up. Much needed. We need more people like you who do not mind giving US the business whenever necessary even if it is in the moment.

  • Excuses are the worst thing you can teach ANYONE, especially a young person. I called JT out only to remind him IN THE MOMENT we revert to what’s comfortable (excuses) when things get tough or we need to make ourself feel better.

Excuses Are Not what makes you feel better; Follow through and Completion make us Feel AWESOME. Remember when you feel like excusing a situation #DoBetter.
